Demanding Student Government Transparency

Updated: Mar 17, 2021

Open Letter written to VP Annette Diorio, SGA faculty representative Vanessa, and executive members of StuGov:

As close to eight months pass, we continue to lose trust and faith in our Student Government, and rest assured, we are not the only ones who feel this way. We, at Dear Lafayette, have decided to move forward and ask for a joint statement from our BIPOC student organizations in which we all agree and stand in solidarity with one another when we demand transparency and accountability measures must be met in regards to Mary Zimmerman 's impeachment, Student Government Association president (2020-2021).

We have yet to hear any news or updates on this matter and we demand that you be as transparent as possible with the rest of the student body. Student Government is still part of this institution and the systems that continue to harm BIPOC communities. Although we have not received any updates as a student body, we fear there has been an intentional delay in the impeachment process by which we were still not informed about. If this is the case, then please help us understand as to why our very own leading representative has not brought this to our attention. Furthermore, we ask that this initiative be taken by not only the StuGov members, but also the administration, seeing how this is a campus wide issue that has not been addressed.

We hope we can come to an understanding about the future we envision at Lafayette College where student concerns are actually heard, listened to, and cared for. We await ALL of your responses.

In solidarity,

Dear Lafayette Coalition
